I had been shopping to replace my old Shimano Cosair 400. I picked up this left handed version and cannot believe the difference in quality and features of these two generations of reel show. So smooth and well made. Now if I could only catch something with it, it would be perfect!. Highly recommended.

I just recently purchased one of these reels to replace a 2 bearing Shakespeare Cirrus spinning combo. The reel itself is very light and has a very smooth balanced retrieve. I put it on a 6'6" Ugly Stick medium rod and so far it's a great combo. This combo can toss a 1/8oz lure into the next county and still have enough backbone to reel in large fish. I also filled the reel with 10lb Berkley Trilene XL Smooth casting line. Hopefully this setup will give me a few years of service.

This is a low end Shimano Rod. It was exactly what I needed as a pair of
trolling rods in terms of stiffness at base and flexibility at the tip.
I use it for both mono and for leadcore. I also use them for bait fishing
and jigging. I would not recommend them for flipping/casting as they are
thick diameter and not as light on the wrist and Shimano has lots of better
rods for that. But in terms of price and quality, for my purposes,
they can't be beat.

I am by no means a professional fisherman, but if you have the money, this reel is awesome. I am learning to use a baitcasting reel, but after about 30 mins in the yard, I felt like a pro. Adjusting the reel is key and is very easy. I have had very few tangles in the line and have taught other family members to cast using this reel. Newbies to baitcasting... just keep practicing, smart thumbs do exist, and this is an excellent reel to learn on. The fit and quality seem excellent. This may be a great reel for avid fishermen, but it is also great for beginners. I love this reel and will definitely buy another, and I encourage others to try it too.

The Citica E is a superb reel in terms of quaity, value and ergonomics. Casting and retrieving is surprisingly smooth for having only 4 ball bearings. The clicking drag star is a really nice feature and is easy to adjust on the fly. The 1/8 turn key access to the spool and brake system is quick and effecient. The 6.3 to 1 gear ratio is perfect for a general-purpose reel. And at 7.8 oz, you can fish this reel all day and not worry about fatigue. Overall, Shimano did a great job with this reel when you consider all the features it offers, the quality components and the pure "fishability" of the product.
